The Telangana State Legislative Council will have its tenth session from September 27. The Council summoned by Governor ESL Narasimhan through a notification in exercise of the powers conferred on him by clause (1) of Article 174 of the Constitution is intended to fulfill the Constitutional obligation that “not more than six months shall intervene between two sittings of the State Legislature.”

It is likely to be a one day session, and no major issues are expected to figure in the business of the House as all the principal political parties are already in election mode. Now that the State Legislative Assembly stands dissolved, it is mandatory on the part of the Legislative Council to meet within six months of the last sitting.

The State legislature had its last session from Mach 12 to 29 to pass the Appropriation Bill. The council too had its last sitting on March 29, and had to meet again before September 28.

According to clause (1) of Article 174, the governor shall from time to time summon the House or each House of the legislature of the State to meet at such a time and place as he thinks fit, but six months shall not intervene between its last sitting in one session and the date appointed for its first sitting in the next session. In the 40 member house, the TRS had a strength of 33 as against five of Congress and one each of BJP and MIM.
