Hyderabad: Ramappa temple, the 800-year-old engineering marvel of the Kakatiya regime will be India’s nomination for consideration as the world heritage site.A proposal to this effect was sent to the UNESCO by Centre, according to Ajmeera Chandulal, Minister for Tourism and Culture on Friday. He thanked the Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma for the nomination. Every country sends one historical site as its nomination to UNESCO every year. The ancient temple, located at Palampet village, some 65-km from Warangal city was named after its sculptor Ramappa.

Built in 1213 AD by Recharla Rudra, a general of Kakatiya King Ganapati Deva, the temple figured in the tentative list proposed for the honour in 2014.The Kakatiya Heritage Trust took the initiative of attending the consultation seminar held at Chennai. The proposal was submitted in 2015, but it could not make it to the final nomination.

The Kakatiya Heritage Trustees and the Government of Telangana resumed the process of resubmission of nomination dossier last year. The temple pillars and their fine carvings make it unique.
