The Hyderabad High Court on Monday directed the Hyderabad city police and district collector to submit details on the alleged use of explosives on a parcel of land adjacent to Hotel Park Hyatt in Banjara Hills in violation of the provisions of the Explosives Act 1884 and Explosive Rules 2008.

Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy was dealing with a petition filed by the hotel management questioning the inaction of the police in preventing M/s Vamsiram Builders from using explosives to blast boulders on the land parcel Mr Prabhakar Sripada, counsel for the petitioner, told the court that they had lodged a complaint on February 12 with the GHMC and the Banjara Hills police but no action had been taken to prevent the illegal use of high-intensity explosives.

He said that as the excavation went deeper into the bedrock, the explosions were causing violent low-level tremors that were rocking the hotel structure in the morning and and evening. The blasts were causing multiple incidents of glass breakage, shifting of air conditioning ducts and dislodging of fixtures, which required urgent maintenance, repair and replacement work at its own cost. Mr Sripada said multiple guests as well as group bookings were seeking refunds from the hotel due to these issues which was causing serious loss and hardship to the business as well as reputation.
