To assist passengers at Hyderabad airport, GMR has deployed volunteers a part of the ‘Passenger is Prime’ programme launched on Saturday.
Around 50 volunteers who were trained at Ramakrishna Math were deployed in presence of senior officials of GMR which operates the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. These volunteers at designated spots will help passengers, mainly those unfamiliar with the airport, the disabled and first-time flyers, when approached. Authorities said they can be identified by their uniform.
Called the Passenger is Prime initiative, it is part of several initiatives taken up at the airport for passenger convenience, GMR said in a press release. Other initiatives include improved scanning at domestic passenger area, dedicated security check lanes for passengers with only hand baggage and opening of a central gate at departure terminal.
“Our relentless focus on the needs of the passengers has helped us reach and retain a position among the Top 3 airports globally in Airport Service Quality (ASQ) for 8 years in a row and in the latest rankings, we have been ranked World No 1 in our category globally, which we see as a clear testimony to the faith and appreciation that our passengers have reposed on our Hyderabad Airport,” said S.G.K. Kishore, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL).
Mr. Kishore also said the annual traffic through Hyderabad airport increased by around 45 % last two years. He also briefed about expansion plans at the airport.
“In the backdrop of increased traffic, we have already initiated steps to expand the airport’s capacity significantly, and the construction work is expected to begin in the next couple of months,” he said. “At the same time, we have also taken a number of measures to help improve the passenger experience & service quality at the airport, such as the reconfiguration of domestic security check area with enhanced throughput capacity, hassle-free and quick E-boarding facility on a majority of domestic flights and widening of departure & arrival ramps for better vehicular movement among others.”
Mr. Kishore also spoke about introduction of new low-floor buses with TSRTC on select routes besides upgrading of paid porter service.
