KTR Supports Supreme Court Ruling on Waqf Act, Slams BJP Over Criticism and Pakistan Match

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao (KTR) has strongly supported the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the Waqf Amendment Act and criticized BJP supporters for opposing it.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), KTR said, “As expected, some BJP supporters are upset that BRS welcomed the Supreme Court’s interim order on the Waqf Act. These people have no respect for the Constitution or the Supreme Court.”
The court on Monday put a temporary hold on some controversial parts of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. One such rule required that only people who had practiced Islam for at least five years could donate property as waqf (a religious endowment). The court also limited the number of non-Muslim members in Waqf Boards — no more than four in the Central Waqf Council and three in State Boards.
KTR welcomed the court’s move, saying the Act was “pretending to be progressive” but was actually meant to create division. He added that the BRS has always opposed such rules.
He also questioned the central government for allowing India to play a cricket match with Pakistan during the Asia Cup, despite a terrorist attack in Pahalgam five months ago that killed 26 civilians. “The BJP doesn’t seem to mind playing sports with the same country that sponsors terrorism,” KTR said.
Other political leaders also backed the court’s order. CPI(M) leader M A Baby called it a welcome step, and CPI MP P Sandosh Kumar said the BJP had rushed the law without consulting Muslim communities. He added that the law included unfair rules that could harm the rights of minorities.
Though the entire Act hasn’t been blocked, critics hope that more changes will come through court action and proper public discussion in the future.
